Santa Reparata celebrations

Every October the 8th at 15.45 Florence celebrates the Feast of Santa Reparata with a parade in the antique center. Actors in medieval costumes and holding florentine flags march in the streets from Piazza di Parte Guelfa towards the crypt of Santa Reparata, the ancient cathedral with paleo-Christian origins.

The anniversary celebrates Saint Reparata whose intervention, according to legend, was decisive for the outcome of the battle of October 8 d.c 406, in which the Florentines managed to repel the siege of the Ostrogoths. This historic event marked the final triumph of Christianity in Florence and the victory over the barbarians. Florentia, as the ancient Florence was called, was able to maintain its independence and preserve the original system founded by the Romans, as well as all the buildings and the socio-political organization of the city.
